Azra is the Head of Aero and Composites for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Azra and her team for the 2025-2026 season.

Hi, I'm Azra and I am in my third year of Civil Engineering. Last year, I lead the Front Wing design and manufacturing. It's a bit rogue, a civil engineering student conducting aero design on something that isn't static. But in my eyes, everything can be simplified down to a bridge structure ;) .

I joined IFR in second year, looking for more practical experience and to explore other areas of engineering outside my degree. It started from my interest in CFD and FEA simulations, but evolved into interest in composite materials design (I am a sucker for pretty carbon fibre). I have had my fair deal of sanding and polishing carbon fibre, and I am notorious for ensuring things are aesthetically pleasing.

My favourite IFR moment is when the front wing was finally finished and I am eternally grateful for all the donations from the GoFundMe.

This year the Aero Team has been rebranded as the Aero and Composites Team. In terms of aero package, we still have a long way to go. The main aero project this year is to finally have a full car CFD simulation and aero map to help create informed design decisions for a full aero package. In terms of composites, this year we are planning to replace the current floor for a lighter one.

I have learned so much in less than a year. The skill set is so diverse, whether it's improving your simulations and data analysis, CAD or learning how to manufacture composites. You'll get a taste of everything in the aero and composites team. Also, aero is cool so why wouldn't you join.

If you're interested in joining the Aero and Composites team this year, follow our socials to stay updated when our recruitment opens in October.
