Bilal is the Technical Director for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Bilal and our team for the 2025-2026 season.
Hi I'm Bilal, a third year mechanical engineering student. I grew up around greater London and have always loved motorsport. In my spare time I work on and ride motorcycles on track.
I joined IFR in my 1st Year as part of the chassis sub-team, where I was responsible for the brakes, and later on also the suspension mounting. I was Head of Chassis in my 2nd Year and then took a year out to work at Mercedes F1 Team as an industrial placement.

I'm now excited to be returning to IFR as Technical Director for our 25/26 campaign, taking on the challenge of leading two technical programs in parallel:
The refinement of the IFR-01 into the IFR-01b to compete in further FS competitions
The all-new ground up design of the IFR-02, our 2027 challenger, and first completely new car in 5 years
The team has come incredibly far over the past years. From putting together a bare rolling chassis late night in the garage for the first time, to successfully crossing the line to finish endurance at FSUK earlier this summer.

We are stronger and more motivated than ever before - there is a vast amount of practical, design, and interdisciplinary skills to be gained for new joiners as we continue to test and race our car.
Our team is open to anyone to join, regardless of degree or prior experience. For most of us, Formula Student was our first taste of designing and building a race car, and we welcome all new members this coming year. Looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.
