Meet The Team: Chrisbec Collins

Updated: Sep 29

Chrisbec is the Team Principal for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Chrisbec and our team for the 2025-2026 season.

My name is Chrisbec and I am final-year Mech Eng student. I am from India but spent most of my life in Norway and Singapore. I have had an interest in cars of most of my life, following Ferrari in F1 and Ott Tänak in WRC.

I joined IFR in my first year as part of the chassis team, where I worked on the firewall. In my second year, I moved to the powertrain team where I worked on fixing chain alignment. This progressed in my third year where I became the Head of Drivetrain and ran the team that developed the new drivetrain for our ICE platform. Alongside this, I was working on the rear wings both in the society and as part of my DMT, setting up autoclaves, using prepregs and fixing resin infusion equipment.

There were a lot of good moments last year. Seeing the rear wheels spin under their own power and seeing the drivetrain working, managing an assembly from CAD and testing on the car was fulfilling. Re-building the differential (the first time…) and getting the rear axle to lock under acceleration was a good learning experience. Building a resin infusion system from scratch with no knowledge over a week and getting a part done was a moment that I was proud of as it motivated me to do more on composites. And of course, going to competition and getting the best result in our team’s history.

This year I’ll be the Team Principal, I am looking forward and setting the targets for this year and our 2-year development cycle. Plans involve getting additional sponsorship from our recent success, organising more track tacks and getting more engagement with the motorsport industry. Organisationally, I’ll be keeping the technical side on track, dealing with the inevitable challenges that we will face and ultimately getting a car to competition. I look forward to improving on our position from last year and setting the team up for long term success after I graduate. I would encourage anyone that is willing to get hand-on the garage and learn to join IFR.

If you're interested in joining the team this year, follow our socials to stay updated when our recruitment opens in October.
