Charalampos is the Head of Simulation for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Charalampos and his team for the 2025-2026 season.
Hello, I am Charalampos Charalampous. I am a third year Mech Eng student from Cyprus.
I joined IFR back in my first year. I originally applied to the aerodynamics team, but for better or worse I ended up in the simulation team! Initially, I worked on various tools that accompanied the team’s lap-time simulator. Towards the end of my first year, I rewrote the code to use objects, so that changes can be more easily implemented. In my second year, I led the simulation team. In that year we expanded the functionality of the lap time sim, adding various post-processing functions and updating some outdated models.
I would say my favorite moment from the past few years has to be FSUK 2023. At the time we didn’t have a running car however, attending competition is a one in a lifetime experience which everyone should get to experience!

This year I am again leading the simulation team. The main objective this year is to use an external lap-time simulator to assist with the parametric design of the car. Meanwhile, we will be validating our in-house lap-time tools against that external tool and track data to ensure that all of our models are behaving correctly.
By joining the simulation team, you can gain a fundamental understanding of how the car operates. This knowledge will then translate into a better understanding of how to design a system for the car and the inherent performance parameters that it should meet!
If you're interested in joining the Simulation team this year, follow our socials to stay updated when our recruitment opens in October.
