Cayman is the Head of 2027 Engine for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Cayman and his team for the 2025-2026 season.
Hi, I'm Cayman! I'm from Birmingham, England and am currently in 2nd year on the Mechanical Engineering course. I enjoy all things automotive, sim-racing and motorsport - so joining IFR was clearly something I wanted to do. Favourite F1 team has to be Mercedes, and favourite car brand has to be Koenigsegg.

I joined IFR during recruitment at the start of 2024 to the Engine team initially, tasked with exhaust design having no past in-depth experience - only being proficient with CAD software and some minor tinkering with mechanical equipment. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the challenge of the tasks I was presented with, and began to branch out and assist the CAD and cooling teams.
I could recall many memorable moments from my time in the team last year, such as the atmosphere at comp and the late nights in the pit garage. Aside from the many skills I learnt throughout the year, my single favourite moment has to be driving the car at competition. After several track tests, it was truly rewarding to feel the progress that had been made since the beginning of the year by the team.

This year I will be working as the Head of Engine 2027, trying to build upon the significant progress and foundations established and maintain a reliable but high-performing engine, integrated into a new chassis. After deciding on an NA or forced induction setup, the main objectives are optimal engine integration, dyno tuning and upgrading internals to increase power and reduce weight, whilst involving the whole team in the learning process.
I would recommend anyone join the 2027 Engine team if you enjoy experimenting with new concepts and like to be hands on, or are generally passionate about motorsports, whatever experience you may have. The tasks that the team will face will be a challenge, but the steep learning curve will push your skills and be appropriately rewarding. Hopefully, we can make some noise and have some fun along the way :)
