Meet The Team: Marcus Ieong

Marcus is the Head of Chassis for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Marcus and his team for the 2025-2026 season.

Hi, I am Marcus, 2nd-year Mechanical Engineering student from Macau. I joined IFR in my first year and am currently the Head of Chassis for the 2025–2026 season.

Last year, I led the firewall redesign and supported many different systems on the car. I’ve always enjoyed hands-on work and have been fascinated by the engineering side of F1 and motorsport, so joining IFR was quite a natural choice. The team has grown tremendously over the past few years, and I’m proud to be part of it.

For me, my favourite moment has to be the first shakedown, when the car finally ran. That’s when I realised just how much potential this team has — and how much I could learn simply by offering help wherever I could.

The sheer amount I learned last year, as a fresher, was beyond anything I imagined. Not only in technical skills like CAD, but also in being a team player and overcoming out-of-the-blue obstacles. Working in chassis has been an incredible learning opportunity, and I intend to keep it that way this year.

This season, the chassis team will be delivering upgrades to many of the car’s mechanical systems (steering, cockpit, brakes, etc.). There will also be a lot of hammering for those of you who are fed up with your course. I’m looking forward to seeing many ambitious and committed people in the garage next year.
