Meet The Team: Sean Sia

Sean is the Head of Operations for Imperial Formula Racing. Read below to find out more about Sean and his team for the 2025-2026 season.

Hi, I'm Sean! I am a third year Mechanical Engineering student from Malaysia.

I joined IFR in my first year. While I initially applied to the team to gain more practical experience working in a project, I was instead allocated to the Cost and Manufacturing team, where I worked on documentation such as the Bill of Materials and Cost Explanation File under the previous lead. I decided to stay on as Head of Cost and Manufacturing in my second year, while also taking on the role of Head of Procurement. While it was challenging to take on a bigger role without much experience, it was rewarding to learn many new skills during that time.

My favourite moment during my time at IFR has to be the Business Presentation event at FSUK 2025. I wasn't meant to be a part of the event until one week before competition, and I learnt a lot about the event during that final week along with Dan - the previous Technical Director, while we also managed to place unexpectedly well.

This year, I will be taking on the role of Head of Operations, which is a new role in the team. I will be in charge of several areas: the Cost and Business static events, Procurement, Sponsorships, and basically anything that doesn't involve working in the garage. The main goals for this year are to strengthen our performance in all static events, as well as building IFR's brand and building relationships with more sponsors.

Despite not involving direct work on the car, you will gain so many skills while being in the Operations team, and there is a role for everyone, regardless of your course or what experience you have.
